Open Position

The Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station seeks qualified candidates for a full time, Superintendent position at the Greenley Research Center located 1 mile east of Novelty, MO. The 1,390 acre Center was established in 1969 to serve the research and extension needs of northeastern/northcentral Missouri. As part of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) and the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, the Greenley Research Center is one of 20 off-campus centers that form a network of “outdoor laboratories” to conduct place-based agriculture-related programs. The Center conducts “problem-solving” research and education programs that are relevant to the crop and livestock agricultural interests in the region.

The Research Center

The Greenley Center was established when Hortense Greenley donated the 700-acre farm to the University and more recently an additional 240 acre farm. Located in the claypan soil region of northeast Missouri, the major objective of the center is to evaluate efficient, profitable crop production in northern Missouri while emphasizing soil conservation, water quality and energy efficiency. Researchers study soil drainage systems, cover crops, reduced tillage, alternative cropping practices, soybean breeding, crop physiology, new technology and products and soil fertility. The Center maintains a beef herd for research on estrous synchronization, backgrounding, feed efficiency and animal health. The Center also includes the Ross Jones Farm which is currently involved in developing a systems approach for irrigation and drainage using drain tile and studying paired watersheds to evaluate the impact of agroforestry practices on water quality. Ongoing performance testing of corn, soybean, and winter wheat continues to yield results to aid Missouri producers.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervise staff, including interviewing, selecting, training, evaluating, and employee performance.
  • Develop and administer the Center’s operating budget.
  • Plan and coordinate the Center’s agricultural research and demonstration projects.
  • Administer the operation and maintenance of facilities and equipment; supervise the inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Oversee the care and innovative management of a 100-cow herd.
  • Manage marketing of production from the Center.
  • Facilitate and coordinate communication between the Center and clientele groups in the food and agricultural community of northeastern/north central Missouri and departmental and college administration.
  • Coordinate programs, tours, and field days for clientele and school groups.
  • Provide leadership for student recruitment in Northeast Missouri.
  • Cooperate with and assist regional extension personnel in the development of brochures, programs, short courses, conferences and other creative and effective outreach programs.

This position may require work to be performed outside of normal work hours which may include evenings and weekends.
